We have tried to collect in one book what is from the Polish literature in the lasting memory of generations, which is based on oblivion, what grandparents, parents and young and young readers themselves are returning to. This strange volume was born, in which, next to fairy tales, there were realistic stories, early works with very modern ones, serious ones with funny ones. The oldest works published here were published in the eighties of the 19th century, the youngest ones - a hundred years later. Throughout this long century, as in the kaleidoscope, the topics were changing, the language, forms, problems, customs changed ... One remained unchangeable: the reading life.
Why do they owe these works to the readers' grace, their favorable assessment? Certainly, the artistic strength of expression, but also something more: the truth about the life they touch, a little reflection to which they incline, the power of the imagination. These are really unforgettable songs. We hope that the book we have prepared will accompany children and young people in their growth, will be a guide to the directions of further, their own reading quests. All texts - both excerpts from books and biographical notes - have been translated into English. Each page of the text in Polish corresponds to the page in English, which makes it easier to compare and learn foreign words.
